Resources

Our greatest resource for ministry will always be our members. However, even the most creative members occasionally need other resources to make the most of their gifts and talents. This page is one such resource. It offers links and other information, as may be available, to assist members and visitors in their search for online resources of use to their ministries.

Should you find additional online resources that may be of use to our members, visitors and friends, please email them to: . We will gladly add them to this site or our Links Page , as appropriate.

Revised Common Lectionary Resources for preaching and teaching: http://www.textweek.com. This is Jeanne Woodard’s most extraordinary site. It is one of the best places to start when looking for lectionary-based resources on the Web. Not only does she include resources for Scriptural exegesis, but there is also a very complete database of movie links that have specific tie-ins to weekly Scripture readings. One of the best on the net.

Another preaching resource site is the Desperate Preacher's Website: http://desperatepreacher.com/ . Not only does it provide a number of preaching and teaching resources for pastors and educators alike, it includes a discussion forum appropriate to the current week’s lectionary readings.

An ecumenical forum which is funded, in part, by the Presbyterian Church (USA) is Ecunet: http://www.ecunet.org/ a topics-based resource that includes a number of discussion forums on a number of Christian topics. It is a subscription-based service, but there is a Lite-Version that you can sign up for free. Definitely worth a look.

Don’t forget the Presbyterian Church (USA) site: www.pcusa.org The site has a multitude of resources available for mission, theology, the Christian life, etc. For information on who we are as Presbyterians, check out Who Are We Presbyterians? . It is a link to pages on the PC(USA) website that explains who we are, what we believe and what we do.

Don’t forget our Methodist http://www.umc.org/ , Lutheran http://www.elca.org/ and Episcopal friends as well. Their sites are definitely worth checking out.

Some of the commercial online resources are: http://www.cokesbury.com/, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation PPC,Eerdmans publishing http://www.eerdmans.com/ and then there is always the ubiquitous: http://www.amazon.com a resource for just about anything you can name (publishing-wise anyway).

One of the best publications for Christians is that of The Christian Century: http://www.christiancentury.org/ . Another resources is that of Sojourner’s Online, a socially progressive, but theologically conservative and evangelical publication that is available in both print and online editions: http://www.sojo.net/. For those with a more Evangelical bent, there is always Christianity Today: http://www.christianitytoday.com/, One of the premier national publications devoted to evangelical Christian ministry in the US today.

For brief news headlines with a religious orientation, check out: http://www.religionnews.com/ a somewhat pricey, but very capable subscription news source for articles about religion, people in the news, and matters of religious importance in the news. Headlines are free. Articles and photos are not. Subscription rates are rather high for individual churches and para-church organizations, but the content is definitely worth the price of admission.

Don’t forget to check out the national daily news sources: http://www.nytimes.com, http://www.washingtonpost.com, the http://www.chicagotribune.com and the http://www.latimes.com as useful and timely resources for researchers. Remember what Karl Barth said about how important is for the theologian to have the Bible in one hand and the Newspaper in the other.

Blessings!
