Presbyterian Women

Adapted From the

Annual Report to the Congregation 2001

First Presbyterian Church continues to be blessed with a strong women's group providing spiritual and physical help to the congregation.  Each circle diligently carries out their duties such as keeping in contact with college students, providing meals for families in times of death, cards and remembrances for shut-ins, birthday parties at the nursing home and support for Interfaith Help Services, and the Salvation Army.  In addition each circle provides greeters for Sunday worship services and devotionals at council meeting.

Operating on somewhat of a fixed budget, Presbyterian Women provide annual support to such mission projects as the Haiti Education Scholarship Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Vera Lloyd Home, Heifer International and the Literacy Council.

Local projects include coats for kids and emergency clothing for local school children.

The Holy Week luncheon is one highlight in the spring.  You can always count on a delicious meal prepared by PW for all who attend the service.

The Christmas season is celebrated with the Joy Gift Luncheon. The Joy Gift supports the Board of Pensions and Presbyterian racial ethnic schools and colleges.  It is a well-attended annual affair held in our fellowship hall.

Each September we begin a new Bible Study, one that we work through together as part of our monthly gatherings.

A chain represents a portion of the Symbol of the PW.  It is made of individual links, none of which are exactly the same size or shape just as each woman is different.  The circle is broken, symbolizing women freed by faith.  It is that faith that makes this organization such a powerful part of this congregation.
