Who
we are . . .
SAFA is
a
community-based AIDS information task force composed of individuals who
have
volunteered their time and energy to provide counseling and education
regarding
HIV infection for those infected, as well as affected.
SAFA has
HIV/AIDS educators and counselors certified by the
American Red Cross, Center for Disease Control and the Arkansas
Department of
Health.
SAFA
provided education programs for civic groups, schools,
churches and law enforcement agencies.
SAFA also
provides materials for county fairs, health fairs,
public symposiums, and many other events in Union, Ouachita, Calhoun
and
Columbia Counties.
SAFA
offers a monthly Food Pantry to HIV Clients that are
currently on disability.
The pantry is
offered on the fourth Friday of each month from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
SAFA currently
sponsors the only support group for those
infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in South Arkanas.
For
meeting times and dates, please contact the SAFA office.
SAFA is one
of five (5) anonymous HIV testing sites
in the state. An appointment is necessary and the test is
free and will
be by oral fluid collection that is free from the risk of needles or
blood. Specimens are shipped via AirBorne Express and results
are faxed
back within two (2) working days. Clients will receive
pre-test
counseling.
SAFA
sponsors a three-day workshop for older
(15 -19) teens and a one-day workshop, "AIDS, Drugs
& Teen
Pregnancy" for adults that work with youth. Both workshops
are
free.
