The El Dorado Promise & FPC Leona Wilson Scholarships
The
El Dorado Promise has attracted a lot of attention to our community,
and rightly so! Graduates of El Dorado High School are eligible
for scholarships based on how many years they have attended school in
El Dorado. Those who started in Kindergarten are eligible for
full, four- year tuiltion scholarship for any in-state college or
university. They can even attend out of state schools, but the
assistance is limited to what they would have received for in-state
institutions. Details are available on the El Dorado Promise
website listed in the link below: http://www.eldoradopromise.com/
Presbyterian graduates are also eligible for one-year Leona
Wilson Scholarships from First Presbyterian. Awards of up to
$1,200 are awarded to Presbyterian graduates of El Dorado High, the
amount of the award depending on the student's four-year gpa.
Summer Sunday School Schedule Underway
We began our summer schedule June 1st. Sunday school classes for adults and
children of all ages are in Summer mode. All adult classes gather in the fellowship
hall at 9:00 a.m. for our combined summer session. The topic for
this summer's session is Christ in the Old Testament. It promises to be a most interesting series.
Children are finishing their Med Tour with the Apostle
Paul and will soon start a new adventure in Faith Weaver Rotation
Sunday School.
Now is the Time to Plan Your Estate
Visit
the website of
the Texas Presbyterian Foundation today to find out more about
estate planning, investing in the future and many other financial
services offered: http://www.tpf.org.
Did you know that there are significant tax incentives for
making a charitable remainder trust donation to the church or other
Presbyterian charity? Funds so donated can earn an immediate and
sizeable tax deduction even as they continue to earn interest and
pay
dividends to the donor until s/he dies. Upon the death of the
donor, the remainder of
the trust goes to the church, a Presbyterian charity or some
combintation of the two as the donor directs. It is truly a
win/win situation!
So, take some time to begin planning your estate. After
all,
practicing good stewardship is an essential part of what it
means
to be Presbyterian. Don't put it off! |
Summertime Fun in the Sun?
The
warm, sunny days of summer are . . . somewhere else! What happened
to the hot and sultry dog days of August? August in Arkansas is
supposed to be hot and dry. Instead we have April showers,
flooding and mold! It feels more like Seattle than El Dorado these
days. God is certainly having a wonderful time with the weather
as we approach the end of summer. We might as well enjoy it!

Pastor Loomis' Nature Videos and Photos Available Online
Pastor
Loomis has been busy this summer videotaping and photographing scenes
from Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. Many of his videos are
available for viewing online. To do so, go to: www.vimeo.com/revcurmudgeon

Video DVDs Available
The
Presbyterian Lecture Series was a very successful event this Spring.
There was a good turnout for Dr. J. Harold Ellens' lecture on
Saturday, May 26th. Participants also enjoyed excellent food at the fish fry and thought
provoking conversation after supper during the Question & Answer
session. DVDs of the Spring Lecture Series are available by request from the church office.
Pastor Loomis is also conducting video interviews
with a number of our more senior members. DVD copies of the first
two interviews featuring Mabel Hammond and Emon Mahnoy are available in
the church office. More will be available as interviews continue
througout the summer and early fall.
When completed, the full set of DVDs will be available
for checkout from the church library. If you would like to be a
part of this Living History Project, please contact the church office
and we will set up a time to do the interview.
