Brief History
First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Established in 1846 it was one of the first churches organized in El Dorado, Arkansas. The current red brick, neo-gothic building, located at 300 East Main, was dedicated in 1926.  Many of El Dorado’s leaders have come out of First Presbyterian, including the previous mayor, Mike Dumas.  Today, First Presbyterian continues to serve as leader in, as well as a source of leaders for, the El Dorado community.

Mission Statement
First Presbyterian is a gathered community of Witness and Service. Our task is to make disciples for Jesus Christ while preparing them for lives of witness and service in the world. Our goal is for our members to be a source of salt and light in the community and the world.

Mission and Outreach

First Presbyterian is a congregation dedicated to mission and outreach. Our mission is to proclaim the love of Christ both in word and in deed.

The Haiti Education Fund, a genuinely ecumenical mission organization dedicated to building schools and educating young people in Haiti, was started by our members and continues to be headquartered at First Presbyterian.  Also, Global Village Education Foundation with its ministry of education to Kenya, Africa, is based at First Presbyterian.

Our members are active in local missions, such as Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Help Service, Interfaith Health Clinic, CareNet, South Arkansas Fights AIDS (SAFA), Hope Landing and the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.  First Presbyterian supports regional Presbyterian mission projects like the Vera Lloyd Children's Home and Evergreen Services. Our members also support the The One Great Hour of Sharing and the Christmas Joy Gift of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  See our Missions Page for more details.

First Presbyterian People

Of course, what Makes First Presbyterian really special is its people. All the buildings, programs and resources in the world can do nothing without dedicated and faithful members who take their calling as disciples seriously. The history of the First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado has been one of working to make a difference. We are proud of our tradition of loving and faithful service to the community and the world.

We like to have fun, too! Christ's disciples ought to be joyful people. We love food and fellowship, celebrations of the season and just plain getting together to work and play.  Check out our photo gallery for snapshots of our members at work and play.
